The Cost of Obedience

By Eryka T. Johnson

And King David said to Ornan, No, but I will pay the full price. I will not take what is yours for the Lord, nor offer burnt offerings which cost me nothing. (1 Chronicles 21:24 AMP)

Do you realize that obedience alone is a sacrifice? Following instructions the first time will lend itself to success with the blessings of God following. But, when we disobey, consequences are necessary.

We all have heard the story of King David numbering Israel’s army against the instructions of the Lord. The Lord grew so angry that he sent massive destruction throughout the land. However, David was given a second chance to obey the Lord’s instructions by offering a sacrifice. No way, would he bring an offering to the Lord that cost him absolutely nothing. Because of David’s obedience, the Lord granted his request.

Let me encourage you to listen, follow, and do as instructed the first time. There have been times that I do not obey and the repercussions were great. Be when you are completely in the will of the Lord, your life, family, and ministry will be blessed. Remember, the greatest offering you can give to the Lord is obedience.
