What is the Difference Between Excellence & Perfection?
By Eryka T. Johnson
In today’s society, the pursuit of Excellence has been confused with attaining Perfection. This association is indicative of a compulsive state of exceeding all limitations and competing on every level. But, is this truly what Excellence means for those of us working in ministry and living Christian lives? I believe not.
Excellence for most of us is simply doing our very best in the spirit of pure Worship and devotion to God.
Do you recall the story of the widow with 2 mites in Luke 21? Even though she was poverty-stricken, she gave her very best offering. Although its monetary value was a little less than one cent, this offering was worth more than any rich man’s seed. Why? Because, it was given in the spirit of Worship and proved to be the more excellent gift. The widow’s giving literally touched the heart of Jesus and served as a lesson learned for His disciples.
When we commit to Excellence in everything we do, this too is a form of Worship. Pursue Excellence, not to the point of Perfection rather as sincere, devotional Worship of the Most High. As you do so, blessings will run you down and overtake your life.
For they all gave out of their abundance (their surplus); but she has contributed out of her lack and her want, putting in all that she had on which to live. (Luke 21:4 – AMP)
