know God moreHow To Know God More – The Secret No One Has Shared With You

By Eryka T. Johnson

Do you want to know God more? Meaning…become closer or even have a deeper, more intimate relationship with Him.

In a world, where things are constantly changing and moving quickly, it pays to know there is someone that remains constant and will never change. And, that someone is God. In today’s article, we will discuss how to know God more and the secret no one has shared with you.

I began seeking God more in my early 20s. I had many situations in my life that were going badly and I needed much direction. And even though I knew I needed help, I suffered from the “know-it-all” syndrome. So, instead of me allowing God to share with me how I could get closer to Him, I thought I could figure it out myself.

So, I tried being nice, reading my bible every day, fasting for 21 days, attending services 2 to 3 times a week, praying throughout the day, and the list goes on…  In the midst of be trying to offer God all my good works, I was still failing at getting closer to Him.

It took me a few years before I REALLY figured out what it took to know God more intimately.

Would you like to hear it? Well, a major truth is revealed in Exodus 3:5 about getting closer to God, “God said, Do not come near; put your shoes off your feet, for the place on which you stand is holy ground.”  The 1st requirement to coming close to God is taking your shoes off. In other words, give up performing and trying to get God’s attention by doing good works. Instead, Hebrews 11:6 explains that in order to come closer to God, we must believe.

The secret to knowing God more is BELIEF!

Having a deeper relationship with God has nothing to do with you being perfect or doing everything right. This should literally set you free. But, it has everything to do with your belief and trusting fully in Him.

Think about your closest relationship? For me, this would be my relationship with my husband. The main thing that allows me to be close to him is my ability to place my full trust in me. I count on him to have my back, to be there when I need him most, and be a shoulder to lean on.

To have this type of relationship with God will require you to let your guard down, allow Him to be a friend and a guide, and allow Him to lead.

Your lack of intimacy with God has NOTHING to do with your good works rather your inability to trust fully.

Believe God first and you will know Him more intimately.

Share your thoughts; I would love to hear them!
