The Long Distance Runner
By Eryka T. Johnson
Have you ever noticed that there is a method to running in cross-country or marathon racing? No, I’ve never participated in any significant type of running or competitive racing. But, I’ve noticed that to complete a race where long distances are a factor, the key is not necessarily speed rather endurance. In this article, we are dealing with becoming a long distance runner.
In Hebrews 12:1 (NKJV), it says ‘…let us run with endurance the race that is set before us’. What a revelation? Most our lives we are pressured into getting everything done quickly or even forced to meet a target to ensure productivity. But, in spiritual racing, the real concern is finishing.
If you are concerned today that you are not moving as fast as others or that your purpose is not growing at mega speed, dismiss those thoughts. Find your natural rhythm and begin moving. No need to be concerned with the runners ahead or on either side. You have a race to complete and where you are at the end is not as important. If you finish last, no need to be worried, ashamed, or feel like a failure. You finished!
Put your sneakers on, hit the pavement, and run the race with endurance. The moment you look back, you will see just how much you have accomplished. Be a long distance runner today!
Respond and let me know if you commit to being a long distance runner.
