I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. So then neither is he that planteth anything, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase. Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour. (1 Corinthians 3:6,7,8)

Mind Your Portion of Kingdom

By Eryka T. Johnson

Do you realize that God has given you an assignment or mandate to fulfill on the Earth? Are you aware that your assignment may not be the same as the one next to you? Because we all have our part to play in God‘s vision, there is no need to walk in envy or jealousy of what your fellow sister or brother is contributing to the Kingdom. All too often, what begins as ministry ends with competition. The sad truth is that this is not a war against the kingdom of darkness but contention within the Body.

I’ve seen where worldly concerns have begun to drive the people of God. Criticism has overtaken relationship building and concern over having more conference attendees than the next worker has become a #1 priority. Where is the focus supposed to be? I truly feel that the people of God have a key role in bringing in the end of the world according to Matthew 24:14. If your portion of the gospel of the Kingdom is left un-fulfilled, the Body and the un-churched are suffering.

There is a model in the word given by Apostle Paul. In 1 Corinthians 3:6-8, it is clear that Paul and Apollos worked alongside with God. Paul is careful to put things into perspective by letting us know that we are nothing without God. As your assignment is complete, you receive your reward according to your own contributions. Also, allow me to note that the assignments worked hand-in-hand, completion of one was a pre-requisite for the start of the other.

The important thing is to recognize when senseless worrying or envious obsession has taken you over as it relates to another’s progression in fulfilling their assignment. Instead of competing, why not link up and collaborate. God can certainly reveal where the connection lies if you will only allow Him that opportunity.

Make a pledge today that you will spend less time strategizing against your fellow sister or brother within the Kingdom and spend more time clarifying your message and connecting with those that are waiting to hear it. Also, declare that you will set aside time to truly connect with those with like assignments and determine where you can serve as a support to one another and build a ministry team with one goal with the manifestation of various gifts.
