The Mistakes of Those Who Can Make a Difference But Won’t & How to Overcome This

By Eryka T. Johnson

Today’s article is one that is literally burning in my heart as the tears are rolling with each word I write. After watching a short segment of footage of starving children eating dirt in Africa, my passion & fire to do what God has called me to has been ignited once again. To see such distress in the world and do nothing means you are turning your back on those in need that you have been called to help. How long will you continue to do nothing? The mistakes of those who can make a difference but won’t is really speaking louder as the problems in the world become more apparent. The good news though is that there is a way to overcome this while extending your hands to those in need.

Why sure…I know when it comes to these types of videos perhaps the worst cases are shown. But, the mere truth is that this is the reality for so many people.  Even if the worst case is shown, this is one to many.

With many of us living in one of the richest and resourceful countries in the world, not to mention the assignment given to you by God, you must stop making the mistake that we cannot help or that our help would be so insignificant. Perhaps, you heart does not break to see hungry children. You may be burdened to see families leaving on the streets with no home or the poor being over charged 5 – 10X more to borrow money. Regardless of your passion…the time is now to get engaged.

You may not be able to do a whole lot at first. So what? Everything you are able to do counts and will make a difference. Although, you may not be able to totally eradicate the problem by yourself, be confident and know that there are many other individuals with the same heart and compassion as you. And, if you can pool your resources together, the world will be a better place for it.

How do you stop making the mistake of being able to make a difference but won’t? I’m so glad you asked.

  • First, start by searching out your passions. What motivates you? What gets you all worked up because you see such a need and desire to meet it?
  • Secondly, determine how you can reach out to the individuals in need. Just make a decision that you will do something to extend help.
  • Thirdly, do something. Make a contribution, volunteer your time, get your friends involved, etc. Simply, take action.
  • Lastly, commit to praying that God will give you the wisdom to create the wealth necessary to totally eradicate the problem. God is in the business of people. And, He has left us here on the Earth to have dominion over its problems and to bring relief to suffering humanity.

You can make a difference regardless of what you have to offer. Stop sitting on the sidelines desiring to get involved but then choose not to do anything because you feel you will not make a huge impact.

Think about the lyrics of that Michael Jackson’s song “Heal the World”…

Heal the world make it a better place for you and for me and the entire human race. There are people dying if you care enough for the living…

What is one way you could make a difference? Post your answer on our Facebook page.
