One challenging thing about having a family and managing a business is balancing your time.
Several women have shared their heartache about moving forward with an incredible vision while ensuring their spouses and children are taken care of as well. For years, this has been my struggle. It has even brought me to the point where my spouse was ready to leave because I failed miserably at setting my priorities and focusing on the right assignments and people.
Let me first be very clear by saying – your first assignment is to home. This means your spouse, children, and managing your home. The Proverbs 31 woman was so effective because she understood this basic principle and allowed it to work for her.
So, I wanted to share my biggest secret when it comes to keeping my family happy and my business moving forward.
Here it is…Delegate as much as you can. If it takes you too long to do a specific task, get some help! The Proverbs 31 woman mastered this by having others help her out in the house.
She gets up while it is still night; she provides food for her family and portions for her female servants. (Proverbs 31:15)
Her husband trusted in her because she had wisdom and knew how to use the resources she had to better the home environment.
Here are ways you can delegate:
- Hire a mommy helper for a few hours a day to babysit the kids. Teenagers are perfect for this type of job. I have worked as a stay-at-home mom this summer and had a teenager come in 3 hours a day to help with the kids. It is a win-win for both of us. I get to work on my vision for 3 hours and she gets to make money as she prepares to go to college in this fall.
- Hire a housekeeping to help you thoroughly clean the house. I have a housekeeper come in once a week to do deep cleaning. I just have to maintain things the rest of the week – with the help of my kids- until she comes again. To maintain the house, I clean the kitchen and dishes and freshen up the bathroom. The kids are responsible for making their own beds and ensuring their dirty laundry makes it to the laundry room every day.
- Do laundry daily and early in the morning. I do two loads of laundry everyday to keep my sanity. I find it helpful to do it in the morning while the house is pretty still and the temperature is not so warm. I use to do all my laundry on Saturday. This would take the entire day. Now, I complete washing and folding within 1.5 hours.
It is easy to lose sight of the important things and people in your life when you are fulfilling your God-vision. However, there is no reason for you to be overwhelmed and stressed. Use these tips on delegating and start freeing yourself up to work both on your family and on your vision.
Do you have any tips to share that could help with saving time? I would love to hear them.
