A Piece of Peace

By Keiara Beverly

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 15:13 NIV)

As God’s children, we are entitled to peace and joy in our lives. As a young child, this sounded so good. I assumed that attending church and being obedient was key, but when we’re young, we tend to misinterpret just about everything.

As I grew older, I began questioning the peace I could have through God. Was it possible to live a life of fulfillment, without unhappiness and disappointment? I was a thinker as a child, not so much a believer, so this seemed to be unrealistic at the time; that eventually changed.

Being a new follower of Christ, I was still unsure of how I was to live peacefully and joyously when difficulties and trials were continuously in the mix. However, about a month ago, I was filled with God’s peace.

When I returned to college from my summer break, I entered a world of confusion, frustration, exhaustion, and anger. I had just begun a leadership role with the Chi Alpha college ministry, the difficulty of school had taken me by surprise, friendships were dwindling, and I felt like I had lost sight of my purpose.

Although I was chosen as a leader, I felt out of place. I even started to question my relationship with God. I had a hard time believing that my part was truly genuine. It took much prayer, long talks with my mom, and undying faith to get back on track. I spent tons of time with God because I knew that this stress was not in His plan. One day, after praying I felt an extreme sense of peace; at that point, I handed my burdens over to God. I believed that He would take care of everything, and He confirmed that I was on the right path.

Through this experience, I learned that things wouldn’t always happen the way we picture it. Sure we all have dreams, but only those that God desires for us will come to fruition. We have to find peace in all situations, believing that no matter what happens today, God gets the glory.

Today, I encourage you to indulge in peace. Thank God for every situation and circumstance, and tell that devil that he has no place in your life. Start your day off by proclaiming a good day. For death and life are in the power of the tongue and so is the peace and joy you truly long.
