identity affirmation

Righteousness is a term in which many of us can relate. It is a sure indication of our relationship with the Father and the level of obedience to all He commands. It implies that we are upright, full of integrity, morally seek to do the right thing, do not compromise when afforded the opportunity, believe God, and strive to conform to HIS will for our life’s direction.

WOW, this sounds like a lot. But the single most important idea here is that righteousness is a lifestyle, a normal day-to-day practice, and a natural part of who we are in Christ. As we commit to discerning and obeying His will, we can expect to enjoy HIS river of “favor and overflow”. Don’t just stand on the shore wishing you could enjoy the waves, JUMP IN; for the household of God is righteousness.

Some keywords for righteous found in Moby’s Thesaurus II include – Christlike, blameless, clean, correct, creditable, decent, ethical, full of integrity, high-minded, highly respectable, honest, law-abiding, moral, pure in heart, the believing, the faithful, trustworthy, and virtuous.

Here are some words of wisdom to help you better understand righteousness…

Genesis 15:5-6 (NLT) – Abram believed unto it…

5 Then the LORD took Abram outside and said to him, “Look up into the sky and count the stars if you can. That’s how many descendants you will have!” 6 And Abram believed the LORD, and the LORD counted him as righteous because of his faith.

Psalm 18:19-22 (NLT) – David walked in it…

19 He led me to a place of safety; he rescued me because he delights in me. 20 The LORD rewarded me for doing right; he restored me because of my innocence. 21 For I have kept the ways of the LORD; I have not turned from my God to follow evil. 22 I have followed all his regulations; I have never abandoned his decrees.

Proverbs 14:34 (NKJV) – Solomon spoke of it…

34 Righteousness exalts a nation, But sin is a reproach to any people.

Isaiah 54:14-15 (KJV) – Isaiah prophesized concerning it…

14In righteousness shalt thou be established: thou shalt be far from oppression; for thou shalt not fear: and from terror; for it shall not come near thee. 15Behold, they shall surely gather together, but not by me: whosoever shall gather together against thee shall fall for thy sake.
