Transform Your Engineering Career with Soul Care and Self-Belief

You’ve probably heard me share how I failed miserably in my career during the first five years.

Yep! I struggled with wavering confidence, mindset gremlins, and anxiety. Think about it…

A new organization.
A new culture.
A new hire.
A new experience.
A new way of work.

I felt out of place and lacked a strong sense of belonging in my organization. In fact, even my best efforts were steeped in fear. And ultimately, the very thing I didn’t want to happen in my career as a female engineer, certainly happened. I was going nowhere fast.

The Turning Point

Until, this happened. I recall having a tough conversation with the human resource advisor after requesting support from my manager. The conversation confirmed two things for me quickly:

  1. You are the owner and curator of your career. Ask questions and embrace curiosity. Until others know that you care, they will not.

  2. What others believe about you should never be your standard. In fact, that’s none of your business. Rather, you have complete control over your belief system. So, program it for success rather than failure.

Honestly, it was a turning point. I embraced belief in myself and in my special abilities. And, I began to see and think differently. My performance did a complete 180 and I began to experience some success. I gained a strong and positive mindset that I nurture today.

3 Practical Ways to Nurture a Positive Mindset

  1. Daily Affirmations: Start your day with positive affirmations that reinforce your worth and capabilities. Phrases like “I am capable of overcoming challenges” or “I am valuable and bring unique skills to my team” can set a positive tone for your day.

  2. Practice Mindfulness: Dedicate time each day to mindfulness practices. This can help reduce anxiety and keep you centered, allowing you to approach your work with a clear and focused mind.

  3. Seek Support: Surround yourself with a supportive network of peers and sisters who encourage your growth. Engaging with others who have faced similar challenges can provide valuable insights and boost your confidence.

By nurturing a positive mindset and self-belief, you can transform your career and experience the success and fulfillment you deserve.
